Abraham, Issac, and Jacob- Genesis 15
How cool would it be to have such a "human" dialog with God!?! Abraham presents his troubles, and God gives him comforting words right back. I love the end of verse 1 (see below). Taking that verse and applying it to yourself is such a great comfort and beauty. Not only does God keep us from harm, but He rewards us by following Him.
I also like verse 6 (see below). Because of what Abraham did God credited him with righteousness. If God came and told me something unbelievable, I'd like to think I'd be credited with righteousness but in reality it would probably be really hard to believe.
My bible says this about Abraham's belief:
Can you imagine the leap of faith it must have required for Abraham to accept this incredible promise? What ambivalent thoughts must have tumbled over one another in this old man's mind as he contemplated the breathtaking panorama of the heavens, without the distraction of city lifts. "Count the stars...So shall your offspring be." From my shriveled body? From Sarah's barren womb?
What kind of reaction might you have experienced? Skepticism? Sarcasm? Wonder? Comfort? Would your faith have withstood the test?
Genesis 15:1 - After this, the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision: “Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, our very great reward.”
Genesis 15:6 - Abram believed the Lord, and he credited it to him as righteousness.
