Abraham, Issac, and Jacob
Genesis 28
I still don't understand why sometimes when God has two people He can choose from to carry out His will, he sometimes chooses the "bad" one instead of the "good" one. But it's really not important that I understand, what's important is that I know whatever God does is perfect and the best. My bible says this:
The apostle Paul uses Jacob as an example of God's grace. Why would God choose a conniving rascal like Jacob to carry out his plan of building a holy nation? God's answer: "I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion" (Romans 9:15).
Also it's interesting to note that when Jacob encounters the Lord, He gives thanks and worships Him, but I never remember hearing Esau worshipping the Lord or giving thanks at all. Maybe if Esau would have still turned to God after losing his blessings things would have been different. It's easy for me to feel sorry for Esau, but thinking back on it he had a great temper and desired to murder. Even though Jacob was a thief, Esau wasn't innocent either, and in the eyes of the Lord they were both sinners.
